His Dark Materials

Sat Sep 5, 2009, 10:41 PM
So... I've been very hooked up with Phillip Pullman's trilogy "His Dark Materials". I had absolutely NO idea it had something to do with God and the Church when I watched the movie, even after reading "The Golden Compass". After reading "The Subtle Knife" I thought it was getting a little too extreme to be a kids book: I mean, this guy lost fingers! Okay, that's not why. But (spoilers ahead) overthrowing "the Authority" is just not... right. And I don't mean about it being right or wrong, but that it doesn't fit. In the series their god was actually an angel who was once the most powerful one, but then when it's time to kill the Authority, they kill the angel who wanted to be, and almost was, the Authority. Correct me if i'm wrong, but it was never said that Metatron was now the ruler of the world, or whatever it's called in english (i read it in spanish).
Another thing I'd like to point out is Mary's decision to change her beliefs. i mean, she was a nun! If she loved God so much, I don't know HOW she did to suddenly become an atheist. Besides, she could have lived a joyful and free life exactly like the one she had as an atheist being Christian.
Apart from that, the trilogy was probably the best written I've ever read, and the plot was extremely engaging, even if you're Catholic (which's my case).

Anyway, I actually did this journal to show my favouritestests covers of the trilogy, which should be put into the spanish versions.

Here they go:

I'm planning on writing more, since Assassin's Creed 2 is coming closer and I'm really into it right now. I have another one with them currently posted, but they're not interacting with each other, called "Silent Bird."

And thank you for the fave on my Kidnapping Meme!
